Being a psychonaut, I've tried LSD and had great effects.

I love LSD.

Whenever I talk to people who have tripped before, though, most say "I would try LSD, but I don't want to have a permanent trip."

I try to explain that if it's possible on LSD, shrooms would also fall into the permanent trip category.

My buddy told me he won't touch LSD until he's 40 in case of a perma-trip.

I told him if he took a hit, having tripped on shrooms before, he would be fine, come down, etc., but he doesn't trust my word.

A lot of my friends have done shrooms but refuse to try acid.

It's not my business to force drugs on anyone so I respect their not wanting to try it, but I mean seriously?

Why is acid so much worse than shrooms to everyone? I'm fully aware of the natural argument (though it makes little sense).

People are stupid?

I've noticed this around friends of mine who aren't into drugs. They seem to believe shrooms are okay but acid is like the devil. However, I've never heard of anyone being scared to try it because of a "perma-trip", your friend just sounds like a dumbass if he thinks a hit of acid is going to do that...

neither one is more dangerous then the other, alot of people i know that dont do psycedelics have that same mindset alot of them are just oblivious the the scientific aspect of a trip they dont realize that a perma-trip is really a LONG SHOT and i mean a LOOOONG shot, honestly if someone told me that they were perma triped i would be more opt to belive that the trip just fucked with their personality and that they now notice things they didnt before and therefore think they are perma tripped all in all i dont think it can happen.

The propaganda campaign the gov't ran in the 70s was extremely well executed and extremely effective. Were mushrooms the drug of choice of the counter-culture and LSD relatively obscure, mushrooms would be the demon drug.

But can people have a permanent trip? I've taken shrooms 10 or so times, acid once, and alot of other drugs, but if I start doing acid, will I get stuck?

Will I be that hobo begging for money? Is it even possible?

Define "permanent trip", please. LSD has a half-life of about 3-5 hours, so no, you can not be under the influence of LSD forever.

How do you know that neither is more dangerous than the other? Experience? Vicarious experience? Scientific study? What?

I never believed that either was very dangerous, but I'd be hesitant to try and convince someone of that because I don't know the facts. Could you enlighten me?

This doesn't make sense. What difference would this make? If its possible to warp your personality so completely by ingesting a chemical like LSD how is their fear unwarranted? "Perma-tripped" isn't exactly a word and does not really have a definition, so arguing semantics does nothing here.

You believe that the word means to trip endlessly on the drug you ingested, right? As in, the chemical is tickling your receptors forever? Well clearly that is impossible unless (even this is a stretch) you have some fucked up metabolic disorder and can't metabolize LSD at all. "Perma-tripped" can also be taken to also mean what you said- that some underlying psychological disorder will spring to the surface, etc. It is pretty amazing that anyone would even take the term "Perma-tripped" (as it may be used in conversation) to mean what you say it is. How absurd is that idea? Do you really believe anyone is that stupid?

I hate it when people say that kind of shit. I have been called an idiot many times trying to tell ignorant people that LSD is one of the safest drugs you can do when used properly. Their responses are always "you're a dumb ass dude, acid stays in your system forever. it gets trapped up in your spinal cord and fucks with it, that's how you trip, you're spinal cord is pretty much damaged forever, and if you crack your bones and stuff you will have flashbacks and go mentally insane."

For some of my friends, they are skeptical about buying acid from a random person out of fear that it's not really acid.  They've just heard a lot of stories about bunk acid or RC's going around that just have amphetamine-like effects.  With mushrooms, you are much more likely to know what you're getting.

Besides what the OP mentioned, what bothers me also is that there's this stigma that "before you try acid, you have to try shrooms first." I just don't understand it, LSD is far more controllable than Psilocybin. Even if you point it out, and they know you're experienced. People still won't believe you.

Those same people will have no problem eating up 3 or 4 MDA rolls, smoking a quarter ounce of dank to their faces in that same night, but "they're not ready for acid yet..."

I don't know about a permanent trip, but I tripped out for a week and lost my fucking mind on acid.  I have no history of mental illness in my family or myself.  I was totally psychotic in every sense of the word.  I was a teenager then but if I was older with a job and a family, I'd have been fucked.

I really am not sure how often that type of shit like a permatrip happens, but I was gone for a week.  It wasn't a bad trip, it was fucking off the deep end crazy.  Now, think about how a weeklong or monthlong psychosis might screw your life up a little bit.

Anyway, my point is that these chemicals are not toys and there are real risks.  We are playing with fire and some people have strange reactions and it doesn't always relate to having a weak mind.  Shit, when that happened to me I was two years into college, well on my way to a career path, and well adjusted in all aspects.  I didn't touch psychedelics for about 12 years because it scared the shit out of me.

Most people who are not familiar with these drugs take a more close minded approach and rehash old anti-drug propaganda, but always know that can be dangerous consequences when you fuck with your brain.
